Abstract

This study was conducted in response to students’ insufficient ability to solve mathematics problems, particularly those related to three-dimensional geometry. This condition was further aggravated by teaching practices that tended to be abstract and were not adequately supported by the optimal use of visual media. Therefore, the objective of this research was to evaluate students’problem-solving skills after the implementation of 3D Pop-up Book media on the topic of cubes. The study employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants consisted of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 01 Jarai. The research instrument was an essay test developed based on Polya’s problem-solving indicators. The findings revealed that the use of 3D Pop-up Book media was effective in improving students’ problem-solving abilities, especially in the stages of understanding the problem and planning solution strategies. In addition, this media also increased students’ participation in the learning process by presenting cube concepts in a more concrete and engaging manner. Therefore, 3D Pop-up Book media can be considered an alternative innovation in mathematics learning to enhance students’ problem-solving skills.
