PENERAPAN PENDEKATAN EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING DALAM MENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN LITERASI MATEMATIS SISWA

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the application of the experiential learning model on the level of mathematical literacy of students. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group pattern implemented at SMP Negeri 17 Pekanbaru. Sample selection was carried out by purposive sampling, where class VIII.5 was designated as the experimental group that received the experiential learning model treatment and class VIII.6 as the control group that followed conventional learning. Data collection was carried out through observation of teacherstudent activities and literacy ability tests, the data were then analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, independent t-tests, and N-Gain. The results of the prerequisite tests showed that the data were normally distributed and homogeneous. Based on the hypothesis test, it was found that there was a significant difference in mathematical literacy abilities between the two groups, where the t_count value of 2.73 was higher than the t_table of 1.996. Furthermore, the experimental group recorded an average N-Gain value of 0.47 or 47% (moderate category), so it can be concluded that there was an increase in students' mathematical literacy abilities after participating in learning with an experiential learning approach.
