ANALISIS KEMAMPUAN LITERASI MATEMATIKA DAN BERPIKIR KRITIS SISWA DALAM PENERAPAN PEMBELAJARAN MATEMATIKA REALISTIK

Abstract


Mathematical literacy and critical thinking skills are essential for helping students solve real-life mathematical problems. This study aims to describe students' mathematical literacy and critical thinking skills within the context of Realistic Mathematics Education (RME). A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, with eighth-grade students from SMPIT Ulul Albab Purworejo selected via purposive sampling. Data were collected through tests, interviews, field notes, and documentation, and subsequently analyzed. The results indicate that the implementation of Realistic Mathematics Education helps students connect contextual problems with mathematical concepts, articulate reasoning, engage in discussion, and draw conclusions. The students' mathematical literacy fell within Level 3, while their critical thinking skills corresponded to Level 2 (TKBK 2). Although students were able to employ mathematical strategies and procedures as well as construct models and draw conclusions they still encountered difficulties in solving more complex problems and providing in-depth arguments. Realistic Mathematics Education facilitates the development of mathematical literacy and critical thinking skills through the resolution of contextual problems.
